Poetic and desolate folk-noir with an occasional drummachine.
Based in Rotterdam Birgit de Priester writes under the alias St. Maane.
She grew up in a household of Tom Waits and Lou Reed, which reflects in her narrative songwriting and singing. “Fascinating combination of dark poetry and an intimate voice.” (Juryrapport Grote Prijs)
St. Maane is a blend of the poetic darkness of Nick Cave and the melodic guitar lines of Joni Mitchell, at times put together with some 80’s avant-garde drumsounds, which she plays from cassette.
In 2017 St. Maane won the price “Sena Grote Prijs van Rotterdam” category singer/songwriter. St. Maane played different venues in the Netherlands, Denmark and Iceland and was played on the Icelandic radio. She is currently touring with the Popronde 2018, NL.
Currently recording her debut album.
For fans of Haley Heynderickx, Aldous Harding.
Live she is accompanied by Sophie Reekers (bass, synth, backings), Morten Brogaard (drumcomputer, synth) and Silvan van der Zwaag (guitar).
“Teer maar ijzersterk (…) de stem van De Priester doet de haren al overeind staan, maar tweestemmig geeft St. Maane het kippenvel de finishing touch.”
